Blockchain paper accepted to IJCAI 19

Posted on 2019-06-032019-06-04 by Ide-san

A paper on decentralized collaborative learning has been accepted to IJCAI 19, one of the top AI conferences, for presentation at Macau, China, in August.

The paper starts with giving a compliment to Bitcoin for its innovative idea for securing data consistency, which is usually called “Proof-of-Work”. Although the original paper describes the idea as voting by computation power, I think the key idea is not just a voting but its stochastic nature.

My paper presents a simple but efficient way of doing “(relatively) secure” collaborative learning with a particular focus on IoT (internet-of-things) applications, where cryptographically rigorous security would be too much. Hope I can see many people sharing similar interests and have exciting discussions at Macau.

About my name

I go by “Ide-san” (pronounced as ee-de-san) at work. Ide (井手) is my family name in Japanese and “san” is something like “Mr./Ms.” (but sounds much friendlier). Tsuyoshi (剛) is my given name meaning “strong like steel.” In Japanese, my name is spelled as 井手 剛. I sometimes use “Thomas” in my home neighborhood.
